In this episode Blair Lyon, VP, Cloud Experience, Linode shares insights on ‘The alternative cloud provider’ movement, where customers are looking for options beyond the mega cloud providers, and the ensuing reasons.
Linode started as a company built by developers for developers in 2003 (three years before AWS). Their open-source culture reflects in the brand’s ethos and offerings. They call themselves the largest independent open-source cloud provider with close to a million developers using Linode cloud services in 192 countries. Linode’s 11 data centers are strategically located across the world.
The company is self-funded and builds its business on trust. It invests heavily into support and offers free, 24×7 human call center support to all its customers. This is one of their USPs. The other differentiator is their pricing, which they say is one-third (or more) less than the big tech companies offering cloud services.
Linode is indeed the David among the Goliaths in the cloud services and data center business.
