For this podcast, we have Tirthankar Lahiri, Senior Vice President, Data & In-Memory Technologies, Oracle Database.
He has been with Oracle for a little over 24 years and has witnessed the paradigm shifts and technology waves since the early days of the Internet.
He will tell us how databases have evolved over the years, and take us through the progression of the Oracle database, from its earliest versions, namely Oracle 7.3 and then Oracle 8i – then to the cloud era which saw the emergence of developer communities and special-purpose database engines.
Then he talks about the Converged Model and the Converged Database that Oracle is promoting today. He tells me that this will simplify database management and administration as enterprises are grappling with challenges like multiple database engines and data silos today.
The converged database manifests itself in the Oracle Autonomous Database which is a new cloud offering. The new database offers self-driving, self-repairing, and self-securing features which are sure to simplify database administration and reduce costs.
And then Mr. Lahiri gives us a sneak peek on the next version of the Oracle Database and the exciting features we can expect. No prizes for guessing that machine learning and AI are going to play a big role in the next Oracle database.
